We haved lived in the SE part of Maricopa County for 8 years now.....I was driving down Sossaman the other day and looked right and saw this.........Never noticed this place before......the old stop is preserved because a Large fence is around it. This stop was used in the late 1800's and early 1900's, this stop provided a place to get water for the horses and a rest stop for the people going on to Mesa and further on to Phoenix. We were not even a State yet!!!
There was a water trough running around three sides of the building...a well was close by to fill the trough. Jasper Sossaman reported that when he, his brothers and his Mother moved to Queen Creek in 1919, the stage stop had not been used for three years.
My hubby thought, how cool that this is so close and we never even knew this!! We have ridden our off road vehicle many times, looking for interesting places and this is right in our vicinity!!!
