Those Famous Red Mittens!!!!

Here I am sporting my RED Mittens!!!! WOW, were those things hard to find, Impossible is more like it!!!!
My sister and I got ours from an unknown angel you might say!!!!!

here is my pair of RED Mittens and a few souvenirs for my Grand daughter!!! The Canadian moose sporting his red Canada jersey and Quachi, one of the mascots for the winter games, he is rocking his red mittens!!!!!

Our goal as soon as we arrived in Vancouver was hit the stores in search of these famous red Mittens!!!! We had heard even before we left town that they were literally flying off the shelves!!!!After searching store after store, and people telling us "oh go up about 4 blocks that way there is a drug store who has some left and we would take off flying there in search of them and then get there and NONE would be available, and then someone said oh I just left this store and they had kids sizes available, so I thought gosh I have a small hand that will fit, and when we got there, the kids sizes were gone too, then some one suggested the Official Olympic apparel store and when we got there it was a 3 hour wait just to get in the door and then what if there was none???? so we said no way and gave up.
Going back to our hotel that night on the sky train, this couple enters the train, and I notice them wearing the mittens, so I ask "where did you find your mittens", the lady replies, oh I have had mine since last fall, we proceeded to tell her our wild goose chase story for mittens, and she pulled hers off and hands hers to me and says these are YOURS!!!!! I said NO WAY, I could Never take those, she said oh no please take them, her husband takes his off and gives his to my sister, by now I am almost crying, pleading with them to let me Pay for them , they said NOPE, it is our gift to you two!!!! They told a story about a family of 7 they met earlier in the week and they gave them all the pairs they had which was 6 pairs with them and mailed them the 7th pair. They said they were fortunate enough to have been able to buy lots of them when they first went on sale in Sept. They explained the money was to support the Canadian Olympic team, so I guess they bought alot to support their team and pass them out to strangers and become an ANGEL to so many!!!!
So everytime I wear mine I think about that saying "Pay it Forward" and try to do something nice to a stranger and expect nothing in return, the christian radio station K-LOVE out here has a Make a difference Monday, where you do a generous act for someone on Monday, just one day a week makes a big difference if you give from the heart!!!!

I think I called them red gloves earlier...mittens say it all.
Glad you have a pair plus your fun memories.
Jamie, what a treat for you to be able to go to the Olympics.
What's next on your bucket list???
I think I had better write one up...I'm getting closer to 55 and have time to think about what I should have done and what I need to aim for.
God Bless you my friend,

I loved all the pics of Vancouver, Jamie! I'm so glad you took so many! And this story about the red mittens is a wonderful reminder that there are still good people in the world.
I was very surprised to see that the large torch structure was black. Every time I saw it on the television I thought they were silver.
Take care,
M.L.
