The Queen's Hamlet at Versaille

In 1783, at the northern end of the palace grounds sits Marie Antoinette's playground known as Hamlet. It is designed after a very English garden with the thatched roofs covering all the buildings. Her home here is above and below, it was two buildings linked by a wooden footbridge. With a man made lake with swans and ducks and fish.

There is 12 buildings that make up the Hamlet playground.

A working water mill.....we noticed tulips growing on the thatched roofs....
Can you just imagine Marie Antoinette walking through these flowering trees, with her parasol covering her from the summer sun????
There was also a working farm with lots of animals....
 Sheep.....
 goats....
goats eating the plants!!We also saw horses, donkeys, and cows. She also had chickens.  It truly was a playground!!!
We arrived here at 10 a.m., we left after they had closed the gates...which is at 6 p.m. but it was after 7 when we got out of there.....such a long fun wet day!!!This Gate was one of the first things I noticed and the last image I snapped a pic of!!!
