Brush with fame game Monday!!!! Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo and Paige Hemmis!!!

In the spring of 2005, I heard that the t.v. show Extreme Home Makeover was building a home for a family in our city, it didn't take me long to find out where and when!!!!!The Okvath family's oldest daughter had written into the show asking for some colorful paint for the Children Cancer wing at the hospital in Tucson, AZ. Much to their surprise they got a NEW HOUSE!!!!!
I went over to watch 2 or 3 days and was amazed everyday at the progress they made!!!! I was there when the furniture truck pulled up and the Arizona Diamondback Baseball Players all helped unload it!!!!!Sadly, the family has the house up for sale according to the internet!!!! This family has 7 children, a few more since they had this house built for them, I thought they had 5!!!! And they are young!!!!The electric bill alone is $1200.00 per month and the water bill is $400.00 per month and they just cannot afford to keep it. Doing a little bit of research, I found that several Extreme Make over homes have been sold. I think they should build smaller more efficient homes for these families!!!!!This picture was taken with out a zoom lenses, so TY is there he is just small!!!! He did not interact with the crowds much at all.
Paul DiMeo did stop and talk and sign a few autographs each time he walked by.
How did this picture end up looking like this????
Sorry about that!!!!!Paige and Paul were in this shot!!!!
She always wore something Pink!!! It was a rainy cold week!!!!!So if you look close you can spot her!!! I don't think her jacket looks pink though!!!

Very cool! It is a shame that they can't afford to keep the homes. Have a great week!

It is such a shame they can't keep the home. Seems like they should be able to afford these beautiful places, but I guess that is not always the case. Hugs, Marty

I love all the V-day decor! When did you make the "xoxo"? So cute! I need to make some of those. I agree they should make homes that they can afford. The same thing happened to the one in Utah. My brother works for the city and he got to join in on the fun in Utah when they did it. Is amamzing what they do for these people, but come on help them out. It just seems like a lot of stress to afford the homes they do. Are you enjoying the rain today?! Have a good week

Yes, I too have heard about too many of the recipients selling or losing the homes built for them ... it would make sense to give them a wonderful home that was cost effective, wouldn't it. Great pics tho.

TYSM for the warm wishes. I'll slowly get back into the swing of things.

Hugs, Marydon

I agree why give them something they can't afford to keep. I am sure they must be very disappointed. Stop by my blog to pick up an award when you have time. Stella

Oh Jamie sweeetie...
I agree, these BIG beautiful homes are wonderful in thought, but they need to be thinking about these families and what they can afford. They have to be able to pay utilities and everything once they are finished. It saddens me to know that after all the love that was poured for this family, that they have to move somewhere else because it has become to expensive for them.

I so love your brush with fame. It is always so much fun. I thank you for sharing with me.

I loved your Flagstaff post also. So pretty. I loved the snow angel. It looks very cold though.

This Friday I will be spending with CeeKay. We are doing a craft day. I was ill with bronchitis, has kicked my butt this past week, but am feeling better, and back in the saddle this week.

Hope your birthday is spectacular just like you.

Country hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry

Every time I watch that show, I think why? Why don't they build an affordable home instead of all that fluff!? I have heard of others having to sell their homes built by makeover too. It's sad.

My SIL helped at the home built in Ky. and yes the folks are down on their luck, they don't need a house they can't afford. That was fun to watch though. I got to go by the Ky. one. Thanks for your wonderful visits.

Hi Jamie,
I know, I was reading in the newspaper a while back about how this AZ family could not afford to keep up all the luxuries that were put into their house. I was wondering if that ever became an issue once all the cameras packed up and left. Kinda sad.
I got such a kick out of your Flagstaff post below. Looks like you guys had a blast!! And little Camdyn looks SO HAPPY playing in the snow.
I also took a peek at your cute V-day decorations. Darling!!!
Take care, Jamie.

You're right they should make afford living for these families. Those utility bills are CRAZY! Interesting to know many extreme makeover homes are sold.

Hi Miss Mimi!

I have been DYING to try out Modern Steak! It has been a crazy week with me starting school, trying to finish up a project for a client and learning that my almost 88 yr old granny has finally decided to give up Minnesota for Phoenix so I am now trying to find a place for her to live. She will stay with me for awhile but is so independant wants to move by herself.
I am working my internship tomorrow and am going to try my best to come to lunch. Thank you so very much for the invite. Email me your phone number in the event I cannot attend. arrangingelegance@hotmail.com
