The Torre di Pisa or Leaning Tower of Pisa!!Building on the tower began in 1173, but was not finished until the late fourteenth century. The tower stands 54 Meters(182 feet for us Americans)It leans approximately 16 feet, quite a feat I must say!!!
We decided not to walk the 294 steps to the top of the Bell tower
We had to be the typical tourist and snap a picture of us trying to HOLD it up!!!!
That is Hard to do!!!Ok, move this way, place your hands a little more to the right, to much, move again a tourist is in the way!!Wow what alot of work to do this silly snap-snot!!!
The Duomo dates back to 1063, but the facade was constructed in the twelfth century. It is a Large White Building, with a Magnificent Marble Pulpit. Many fine works of art are also inside.
The Baptistery's construction began in 1152 and was also completed in the late 14th century. The Baptistery and the Duomo opened at 10, so we did not have time to go inside.
The Large Wooden doors to enter the Duomo have Bronze panels with bas-reliefs from the sixteenth century. A bas-relief is a sort of sculpture where the sculpture has less depth behind the faces or figures then the actual faces or figures would have when measured.
Piazza del Duomo or Campo dei Miracoli, Field of Miracles holds the Main attractions of Pisa. The piazza was built outside the main city center but within the still preserved city walls built in 1155.
I loved this water fountain.
A charming little pizzeria, we just grabbed some warm cappuccino, a wooden pinnochio toy for Miss C and Baby L. I also got my Christmas ornament and magnet!!
I find these chalkboard menus so charming!!
The piazza dei Cavalieri was the center of Pisa in it's days as a republic.
On to Florence and Sunshine we hope!!!
